Alumni S Jaishankar & Nirmala Sitharaman condemn JNU violence; Cong demands resignation
Amid the attack on students and professors in JNU, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar unequivocally condemned the violence.

Amid attack on students and professors in JNU on Sunday, two distinguished alumni of university- Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar unequivocally condemned violence. Jaishankar stated that whatever happened in varsity on Sunday was against tradition and culture of JNU. On or hand, Sitharaman recalled that university was always kwn for its “fierce” debate culture, which never culminated in violence. Dispelling any negative impression about role of Centre in violence, she asserted that government wanted a safe environment for students.

Congress calls upon Sitharaman and Jaishankar to resign
Commenting on reaction of Sitharaman and Jaishankar, senior Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi appreciated gesture. However, he claimed that violence had been perpetrated by elements close to ruling BJP. reafter, Singhvi called upon m to resign in wake of Centre’s alleged role in JNU attack.

Violence in JNU
JNU registrar officially confirmed that re was a law and order situation on campus. Reportedly, mask miscreants armed with sticks and or weapons have damd property and beat up students as well as faculty members. Meanwhile, around 18 people from JNU have been admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre.
