Amid Covid-19 pandemic, flood & landslides hit Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh

Even as the nation has been fighting the worst pandemic ever in modern times, floods and landslides have been reported in the Northeastern states of India

Even as nation has been fighting worst pandemic ever in modern times, floods and landslides have been reported in rastern states of Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Presh. Both have been triggered by incessant rain in region following Cyclone Amphan.  early floods in states of Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Presh have caused worry among people. Even though it is an annual affair for states in rast to deal with floods and landslides, this year, it's a cause of worry as most of resources available both with Center and states have been fighting Covid-19 pandemic.

Incessant rain over last few days has triggered many landslides in region including in Guwahati. Some of worst landslides have been reported from Meghalaya's West Jaintia Hills too. Many rivers in region are flowing above danger level, including Brahmaputra in certain places in Assam. Siang River ( Brahmaputra as called in Arunachal Presh), is flowing more than one meter above danger level in Miao and Tezu in Arunachal Presh. Similarly ar of Brahmaputra's major tributaries, Subansiri, too has been flooded.

In lower Assam areas, water released from dams and reservoirs in Bhutan have flooded certain areas too in districts of Nalbari, Baksa, and Barpeta. On or hand, floodwaters from West Garo Hills have inundated many cropland in Western Assam. So far loss of human lives has been reported from anywhere, but first wave of floods has caused immense loss to property and livestock. In Assam over 200 vills have been affected so far with an impact on nearly two lakh population of State. It may be mentioned that State government of Assam h been keeping a tab on flood preparedness for last few weeks while dealing with COVID-19 situation.

worst fear among people is that floods and pandemic can cause an immense loss in terms of human resources to state, as ory of social distancing is t practical while dealing with floods. Meanwhile, IMD has predicted heavy to heavy rainfall in region for next three days.
