Amit Shah highlights achievements of BJP-led Govt in Mizoram

Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah inaugurated North East Handloom and Handicraft Exhibition 2019, organised by the North East Council in Aizawl on Saturday. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh was also present on the occasion. During his speech at the ceremony, Amit Shah highlighted the achievements of the BJP-led government in Mizoram and Northeast. Shah, also the NEC chairman, assured Chief Minister Zoramthanga of working towards the development of the state.

Addressing the people, Amit Shah said, "I am very happy to visit India's beautiful state of Mizoram today. In Mizoram, the most disturbed state in the country could become the most peaceful state, it can also become the most developed state in the country, he said. The state had witnessed a two-decade-long insurgency since 1966, which ended with the signing of a peace accord between the Mizo National Front and the Government of India in 1986."

Speaking about handloom he said, "I agree that handloom has provided employment to the entire northeast. Raw materials such as bamboo and other forest product have been made available. The art and culture of handicrafts in the region can help the handloom industry boom and also play a greater hand in the growth and production of handlooms."

The state has great potential in bamboo cultivation and its residents can become self-sufficient through the manufacture and sale of handicraft items. "The massive wealth of bamboo in the state can be utilized for the development of handicraft items. Self-sufficiency could be achieved through the manufacture and sale of bamboo products," he said.

Schemes by Modi government

From the time Narendra Modi became Prime Minister entire northeast is walking towards development under his guidance. In the last five years in Mizoram, Dr. Jitendra Singh has also done a lot of development work. Shah said, "Hydropower plant of 60 megawatt and Broad gauge railways to be ready in Aizawl by 2021. The Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project will help increase the business." 

"There are 51 new military schools that have been made. The Aizawl state referral hospital worth 40 crores has been set up. Cricket stadium worth 11 crores has been made. Similarly, a 2 crore worth greater away water scheme has been introduced. State sports academy and horticulture colleges have been set up," he added.

Speaking about the schemes created by the government, Shah said, "Ujwala scheme has provided LPG connection in Mizoram, 35000 families have been provided with sanitation facilities. Under Pradhan Mantri Awaz yojna 23000 people got homes allowed. Over 6000 families have received electricity. Similarly, under Jandhan Yojna 3 lakh bank accounts have been opened in the state. Lastly, over 1700km national highway will be created in Mizoram in the coming years."

Allocation of funds

Shah also said that the BJP-led government at the Centre has doubled the allocation of funds for developmental projects in Mizoram than what the UPA government had done. "While the UPA government had allocated over Rs. 19,900 crore to Mizoram through the 13th Finance Commission, the Modi government has already allocated Rs. 42,970 crore to the state through the 14th Finance Commission," Shah said.

Lastly, the Union Home Minister also promised the Chief Minister that he would do "everything possible to make the beautiful state develop, prosper and become more beautiful".
