Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday launched supply of special winter-gre diesel for high altitude Lakh, which faces sub-zero temperatures during winter months.

Inaugurating through video conference supply of fuelto newly created Union Territory (UT), Home Minister said winter-gre diesel has been developed by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to dress problem of loss of fuel during extreme winter conditions.

Motorists in high-altitude areas like Lakh, Kargil, Kaza and Keylong face problem of freezing of diesel in ir vehicles when winter temperatures drop to as low as minus 30 degree celsius, an official said. After being apprised of difficulties, IOCLhas come up with an invative solution to this problem by introducing a special winter-gre diesel which does t lose its fluidity even in extreme winter conditions, official said.

This winter-gre diesel also meets BIS specification of BS-VI gre and was successfully produced and certified for first time by Panipat Refinery on vember 8. Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Prhan and BJP MP from Lakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal were present during launch.

IOCL, after several interactions with customers and channel partners in region, received feedback about difficulties of using standard diesel in winter months. Corporation n worked on developing an in-house solution to problem and undertook conceptualisation, component stream identification, blend study, tank preparation, hardware modification, quality justment of unit streams, flushing of associated infrastructure, production, certification of desired product gre and immediate ro supplies to deliver a long lasting solution to this challenging issue, ar official said.

first delivery of fuel is being effected with launch by Home Minister to highest altitude retail outlets at Leh as first tank truck containing winter-gre diesel has been flagged off from Panipat in Haryana. Subsequent supplies would be done from Jalandhar in Punjab from where this special gre fuel would reach Leh and Kargil depots to meet demands of customers of UT of Lakh during peak winters.

IOCL, for last over six deces through its unfailing supply and logistics network, is alrey undertaking mammoth annual task of vanced winter stocking for region to ensure round year availability of fuel supplies despite closure of ros for nearly six months.
