Amit Shah: Modi govt wants to give system that'll make RTI superfluous

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday addressed the 14th Annual Convention of Central Information Commission (CIC) in Delhi. During his address, Amit Shah spoke about the Right to Information (RTI) Act. Referring to the RTI, Shah said that India is the first country in the world that has succeeded in creating an accounting information system. He also mentioned that the RTI Act has helped bridge the gap between the public and the administration.

Speaking at the 14th Annual Convention of CIC, Shah said, "In our country, it was necessary that people's trust should be built-in governance and system and people's participation should also come within the system. The aim of the administration before independence was to fulfill the wishes of its masters, due to which there was a huge gap between the people and the administration in a big period. In the last 14 years, the RTI Act has helped a lot to bridge the gap between the public and the administration and has increased the confidence of the administration and the system."

"India is the first country in the world which has succeeded in creating an information system up from the bottom and has been able to set up an accounting information system. The information commissions have been set up in every state from the Central Information Commission. More than 5 lakh information officers are discharging this law under this act." he added.

Amit Shah also spoke about the importance of RTI. He said, "The RTI Act is a good effort in taking administration in the direction of providing good governance without injustice, good effort in creating a corruption-free administrative system. RTI has also played its full role in controlling the encroachment of rights. Governments around the world have stopped enacting the Right to Information Act. But this is not the case in India." 

"In the Narendra Modi government, we want to give such administration that the Right to Information applications should be minimized. We do not need people to use RTI, we want to give such a system."
