Ammonia Gas Leaks At Ice Factory In Punjab's Jalandhar: 1 Killed, 5 Hospitalised

One person was killed in Punjab's Jalandhar due to suffocation after ammonia gas leaked at an ice factory located near Domoria Bridge on Saturday.

Jalandhar: One person was killed in Punjab's Jalandhar due to suffocation after ammonia gas leaked at an ice factory located near Domoria Bridge on Saturday. Apart from one death, several other individuals reported symptoms of suffocation after the gas leak incident, which occurred on Saturday in Jalandhar. 

According to the Jalandhar administration, all the emergency services were promptly mobilised to the spot, where the teams of the fire brigade and other concerned departments are carrying out a rescue operation. At least six individuals were rescued from the ice factory and were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, where one of them was declared dead. The other rescued individuals are reported to be in stable condition.

A police official said that several people complained of suffocation following the leakage in the area. The police have sealed the area and also diverted traffic.

Fire tenders and an ambulance were called to the spot and six people were rescued from the factory of which one, who was taken out in unconscious condition, died while the rest are in stable condition. The incident took place at around 2 pm. Residents of the area complained of a strong smell and suffocation.

The Jalandhar deputy commissioner has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident, directing the sub-divisional magistrate to submit a report regarding the incident within 15 days.

Further details regarding the deadly ammonia gas leak incident are being awaited.
