Anand Mahindra confirms 'Super 30' mathematician Anand Kumar had refused financial support, says, "He's changed so many lives"

Lauding Patna-based mathematician Anand Kumar for changing so many lives, Mahindra Chairman Anand Mahindra, on Saturday, has confirmed that Kumar had indeed courteously declined Mahindra's offer of financial support, as expressed in a PTI article.

The Hrithik Roshan-starrer 'Super 30', released on Friday, which raked in Rs 11.83 crore on the first day is based on mathematician-Super 30 Founder Anand Kumar. The film revolves around the mathematical genius in Bihar who opens an institute to teach the underprivileged children. Under the 'Super 30' initiative, Kumar trained Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) aspirants crack the entrance exam to the prestigious institute.

Speaking to PTI, Kumar had said that while many had offered to donate to his venture, he had refused to accept their money saying that he wanted to do good for the field of education.

"I do not take any grant or donation from anyone. Our Prime Minister, corporators, business tycoons like Mukesh Ambani or Anand Mahindra have offered donation but I haven't accepted anything. I meet everyone but I do not take money from anyone. I only want to do good work in the field of education," he said.

During the course of the interview, Kumar also said that while he liked the approach taken by the 'Super 30'  movie team in portraying a true story, he had set a few conditions regarding the casting.

"I had a few conditions - only once I approve the script the film will be made and the actor, director and music director will be of my choice," said Kumar adding that "the makers had to change the script 13 times because of me".

The 46-year-old mathematician was diagnosed in 2014 with Acoustic Neuroma, a rare medical condition for which he is currently receiving treatment. Doctors had informed him that he had just 10 years to live. Kumar has expressed his happiness that the biopic was released at a time when he is healthy.
