Andhra Pradesh Government constitutes 16-member SIT to probe recent attacks on temples
As per the Andhra Pradesh government, the SIT, headed by IPS officer, GV Ashok Kumar will investigate all temple-related cases since September 2020.

Amid recent incidents of temple vandalism in Andhra Presh, state government has constituted a 16-member SIT to probe attacks on temples heed by IPS officer, GV Ashok Kumar. As per Andhra Presh government, SIT will investigate all temple-related cases since September 2020. ditionally, departments have been asked to extend full cooperation to SIT team.
SIT will also co-ordinate with SPs and local personnel and identify links by studying pattern of reported crimes. ditionally, Cyber Crimes PS of CID, Vijayawa & Visakhapatnam shall extend all possible assistance. Director, FSL has also been asked to accord top priority to request of any Forensic support by SIT chief, and ncies like CID and Intelligence have been told to extend full co-operation to investigating team.

When it comes to highlighting role of SIT chief government has said that Chief would supervise all proceedings in order to file a final report in relevant court. He can also ask DGP for any ditional personnel/logistical support if required and would, in turn, update DGP and GP about progress of cases from time to time.
decision to form a 16-member SIT comes a day after CM Jagan Mohan Reddy, anunced that he will be forming a 7-member State Level Communal Harmony Committee to discuss issues related to communal harmony and look into security guidelines of religious places. committee heed by state chief secretary will comprise of DGP, principal secretaries (Home, Endowments, Mirity Welfare, Political), and one member from Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, and Or communities.

Recent incidents of temple vandalism
recent incidents of vandalism began with desecration of a 400-year-old Lord Rama idol at famous Ramateertham temple of Vizianagaram district. On December 29 morning, one of priests found doors of ancient Sita Lakshmana Kodandarama temple broken open and Ram idol in sanctum sanctorum beheed. severed portion of statue was retrieved from nearby temple pond on next day.
