Andhra Pradesh Minister: No plans to shift capital from Amravati for now

During the State Assembly session, YSRCP Minister said that the state government currently has no plans to shift the capital from Amravati

Andhra Presh government on Friday categorically said re was proposal to change state capital from Amaravati, an assertion that could possibly put an end to uncertainty and speculation on issue going on for over six months w.

During State Assembly session, Telugu Desam Party members P Samanthakamani, G Deepak Reddy and P Ashok Babu h raised question regarding state's capital, a contentious issue that has dominated conversations for a while w. Botsa Satyanarayana, who is State Municipal ministration Minister said in a written reply to state legislative council that re was proposal to currently change state's capital. 

discussion around a shift in capital intensified day when Jagan Mohan Reddy took over as state's Chief Minister and ordered for all infrastructure work to stop - thus leing to speculation that capital might be shifted.

Earlier, re were reports that  Andhra Presh government will decide on future of state's new capital once expert panel constituted to draft a comprehensive plan for its development, submits its report.

Work stalled in Amravati

In September, government constituted an expert committee heed by retired IAS officer G Nswara Rao to determine scope and shape of capital, among or things. A series of statements by several ministers on Amaravati only confounded confusion, triggering protests from opposition parties and or sections, who demanded that state capital city t be changed. Municipal Minister, however, maintained that a decision on capital would be taken only after expert committee submitted its report. Sources said committee is expected to submit its report on December 22 or 23.

Last month, Chief Minister ordered that stalled development projects in Amaravati be resumed, but with ir scope drastically reduced to avoid wasteful expenditure.

Against this backdrop, government came out with an official anuncement on capital in Legislative Council.
