Amaravati: Unprecedented rainfall and flooding in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over the past three days have resulted in 35 deaths, with severely damaging infrastructure, submerged vast tracts of farmland, and left residents struggling for basic necessities.
Both states are heavily engaged in relief and rescue efforts after rain related havoc in the states.
In Andhra Pradesh, 19 individuals have lost their lives due to rain-related incidents, while 16 fatalities have been reported in neighboring Telangana.
On Monday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced that he has requested the central government to classify the flooding as a national calamity. He further stated that at least 17 people have died in the recent floods and rain-related incidents.
"This is the most severe disaster I have witnessed," Naidu stated at a press conference at the NTR district collectorate. "We have faced events like the Hudhud hurricane and the Titli cyclone, but the human suffering and property damage here surpasses those events."

'Based on the requests received from local Administration due to flood like situation after incessant rains in Andhra Pradesh, Indian Naval Aircraft, Flood Relief Teams (FRTs) and diving teams from Eastern Naval Command at Visakhapatnam have been deployed to augment the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) efforts in the state. 4 helicopters (02 ALH & 02 Chetak) and one Dornier aircraft have been deployed for providing Search and Rescue (SAR) cover. So far 22 stranded personnel have been rescued and more than 1000 kg of food was air-dropped for stranded individuals. 10 FRTs have also been deployed to augment the rescue efforts. The NDRF team, along with Central forces and district officials provided food, drinking water, and other essential items to the flood-affected areas in Vijayawada through helicopters.

To manage the crisis, 32 senior IAS officers have been assigned to oversee relief operations in 32 divisions, while 179 officials have been deployed to specific villages and ward secretariats in affected areas.
- Administration Uses Drones to Deliver Food
On Monday, eight to nine drones were used in Andhra Pradesh to deliver food packets to 10,000 people. Meanwhile, state administration plans to deploy up to 35 more drones on Tuesday.
