A top forest officer narrated incident to PTI revealing that elephant was found in a serious condition from fringe areas of forests in Pathanapuram by forest officials. " pachyderm was found alienated from herd of elephants. Its jaw was broken and it was unable to eat," senior officer told PTI. Furrmore, official ded that elephant was very weak and when forest officials approached, elephant ran into forest and joined herd of elephants but was found alienated next day. official ded that proper treatment was given to elephant, however, it succumbed to injuries.

Ar official stated that it is suspected that elephant bit food item filled with crackers and it exploded in her mouth, ding that postmortem report is awaited.

"It is very difficult to gar information on such incidents. Locating place where y meet with such fate is t easy as herd of wild elephants travels several kilometres a day. incident comes to tice of forest officials after ill-fated elephants are found alienated from ir herds. That too weeks later. This makes probe tough," Kerala Forest Minister K Raju told PTI.
Kerala CM assures strict action
Meanwhile, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has assured of strict action against those responsible for killing of pregnant elephant in Mallapuram. Chief Minister also informed on Wednesday that forest department is probing case and culprits will be brought to book. incident has rd citizens across country including eminent personalities voicing ir concern across social media platforms.

Cruel animal abuse
pregnant elephant died in Palakk district after a local allegedly fed her a pineapple stuffed with crackers. incident showing an act of human cruelty took place on May 27 while elephant was standing in water and forest officials said that it died standing in river Velliyar after it suffered an injury in its lower jaw.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Mannarkk forest range officer said that an FIR has been lodged against unidentified people under relevant sections of Wild Life Protection Act over incident.
