Islamabad: In yet another tale of cross-border romance, a 25-year-old Pakistani woman, Mehvish, has crossed the international border to join her fiancé, Rehman, from Rajasthan, India. Mehvish, who resides in Islamabad, befriended Rehman, a transporter from Bikaner, Rajasthan, via a social media platform after the dissolution of her first marriage in 2018. Their online interactions soon blossomed into a deep relationship.

On March 13, 2022, Rehman proposed Mehvish, leading to a "marriage via videoconference" three days later. The couple later celebrated a formal in-person wedding during Mehvish's Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca in 2023.

Previously married for 12 years to a Pakistani man from Lahore’s Badami Bagh, Mehvish has two sons aged 12 and 7 from that marriage. Following her divorce in 2018, she began her new chapter with Rehman, culminating in their recent union.

On July 25, Mehvish made the journey from Islamabad to Lahore before crossing into India through the Wagah border. She obtained a 45-day tourist visa following a comprehensive document review by Pakistani and Indian authorities.

Rehman’s family welcomed Mehvish upon her arrival and accompanied her to Pithisar village in Rajasthan’s Churu district.

Their story adds to a growing list of cross-border love tales between India and Pakistan, echoing recent high-profile cases such as Seema Haider's journey to India to be with her lover.

Seema Haider-Sachin Meena's Cross Border Love Story

Last year, Seema Haider became a media sensation when Indian authorities discovered her living with her Indian husband, Sachin Meena, in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Haider’s story garnered widespread attention after she revealed that she had met Sachin through the popular mobile game PUBG and had journeyed to India to be with him.

Sachin was working in Saudi Arabia at the time of their virtual romance. In a dramatic turn of events, Seema traveled to India via the UAE and Nepal, defying her previous life in Pakistan. In a BBC interview, Seema disclosed that she had converted to Hinduism and had no intention of returning to Pakistan. She also claimed that her children had embraced Hinduism. Amidst growing calls for her deportation, Haider has appealed to President Droupadi Murmu for Indian citizenship.
