An Argentine TV channel has provoked outrage and a subsequent bout of collective apologies online by using Apu from the Simpsons to depict PM Modi's arrival in the South American nation for the G-20 Summit.

Cronica TV, one of Argentina's most popular news channels with an accounted history for the bizarre, showed a side-by-side of the Indian convenience store-owner character in the iconic and long-running American sitcom with visuals of Air India One carrying the Prime Minister landing in Buenos Aires. The line below read "Llego Apu" which translates to "Apu arrives".

A Twitter post with the visual (seemingly by the channel's operator) has gone viral online, resulting in it receiving considerable flak. Many Argentineans have also apologised on the channel's behalf to India and Indians:

The Prime Minister spoke at a 'Yoga for Peace' event, met UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Saudi Crown Prince MbS and is scheduled to hold a trilateral with Japan's Shinzo Abe and US President Donald Trump, apart from attending the G-20 Summit.
