1976
BJP's senior leer Arun Jaitley in 1976 campaigned all over country after Congress was defeated in Lok Sabha 1977 elections for first time. He was national convener of Loktantrik Yuva Morcha formed to campaign for Janta Party.

Elaborating early days of his political life, he said, " 1977 General Elections inflicted a humiliating defeat on Congress and for first time, created for a credible opposition in country, bringing an end to unilateralism in our polity. I took part in campaigning all over country. I was national convener of Loktantrik Yuva Morcha formed to campaign for Janta Party."
1980
former Union Minister joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on January 10, 1980 after being a member of ABVP.

1990
About a dece later, professional lawyer was appointed as ditional Solicitor General (ASG) of India in 1990 and was given responsibility of Bofors case.
Elaborating on Bofors case, he said, "I was entrusted Bofors case, which h shaken collective conscience of nation n. Bofors investigation was very unique; as for first time cross-border transactions were investigated on a large scale."

1991
A year later, Jaitley became member of National Executive of BJP.
2000
In Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, Jaitley was elevated as Cabinet Minister for Law, Justice and Company Affairs.

2001
ditionally, in following year he was handling Ministry of Shipping. Speaking about which, Jaitley h said that he emphasised on modernisation of Ports. He said, "I paid special attention to modernization of Ports by upgring berths and introducing new berths so as to improve efficiency by reducing turnaround time."
2002
In 2002, Jaitley was appointed as General Secretary of BJP under former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

2006
In 2006, senior leer was re-elected to Rajya Sabha from Gujarat.
2009
When Congress party was in power, as an Opposition leer Jaitley emphasised on efforts to position BJP as party that played a pro-active role in democracy, by keeping former PM Dr Manmohan Singh-led UPA government in check.
He said, "As Leer of Opposition, I have focused on efforts to position BJP as a party which plays a pro-active role in democratic functioning of country. Thus, all steps have been taken to expose deficit of governance; be it various corruption scandals such as 2G spectrum scam, Common Wealth Games scam, Antrix-Devas deal, or failure on ecomic front to rein in spiraling inflation and to push for a stable environment conducive for investments and growth. Party played a very constructive role while passing historic Women's Reservation Bill in Rajya Sabha. Similarly, Party kept government under scrutiny while passing Indo-US Nuclear Deal. Party supported Anna Hazare movement for bringing in a strong and effective Lok Pal and successfully resisted passing in Rajya Sabha of a weak bill passed by Lok Sabha."
2012
Jaitley was re-elected to Rajya Sabha for a fresh term from Gujarat on April 3, 2012 and accorded as leer of Opposition.
2014
In Prime Minister Modi first tenure, BJP senior was incharge of various crucial portfolios including Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
2018
In 2018 Uttar Presh elections, Arun Jaitley was re-elected to Rajya Sabha from Hindi heartland.
2019
In 2019, BJP stalwart opted out for new PM Modi Cabinet citing health reasons. In his letter to PM Modi, he h mentioned that despite stepping out from formal duties, he would "undertake any work to informally support government or party."
