Assam Rifles rescues abducted Manipur man, recovers large cache of arms and ammunition during search operation

Four armed unidentified miscreants kidnapped chief of Dampi village Lunkholal Lhungdim, from Kaprang village of Churachandpur district, Manipur, on July 5. The Assam Rifles (AR) launched a rescue operation in coordination with the local police on July 6, after which the abducted individual was released by the kidnappers.
As per reports, after realising that an AR team is after them and approaching their secret location, the kidnappers abandon the village chief and ran away from the spot. After the rescue by the forces, the chief appeared visibly weak and was handed over to his family by the AR following certain medical examinations, the report further added.
Notably, during the intense search operation by the Assam Rifles and the state police on July 9-10 in the aftermath of the incident, a Kuki insurgent was apprehended and a large cache of arms, ammunition and warlike stores were recovered by the forces.

- 1 Chinese hand grenade
As per a statement released by Lt Col Harsh Wardhan Pande, PRO (Army), the timely operations resulted in the big crackdown of the insurgent groups and exposure of the nefarious designs of extortions of these groups.
In another incident, four people were arrested including a drug supplier from Lilong and Porompat areas of Manipur on June 27. A combined team of Thoubal district police and All Lilong Anti Drug Committee also seized one revolver along with six live rounds, one single barrel gun, two mobile phone handset and Rs 5,54,700 in cash from them.
