Guwahati: The Assam government is all set to roll out Orunodoi 3.0 Scheme on September 19, 2024. The scheme is aimed at providing a financial assistance of Rs 1,250 to women. As many as 12 lakh new recipients across the state, are expected to be covered under the scheme which was first introduced on October 2, 2020. Approximately 10,000 new beneficiaries would be added from each of Assam 's 126 constituencies.
Orunodoi 3.0: Primary Objective
The women beneficiaries will get the financial aid through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme. The primary objective of the scheme is to enhance living standards and reduce poverty in the state.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Assam government is also planning to conduct 126 meetings in various constituencies to facilitate widespread community involvement. These meetings will include participation from ministers, MLAs, and members of the opposition.
Recently, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma disclosed a plan to issue new ration cards to 17 lakh individuals who currently do not possess one. The CM explained that many eligible residents don't possess these cards, hindering their access to benefits under the Orunodoi scheme. The issuance of new ration cards will also commence on September 19.
Recently, the Chief Minister urged all state MPs, his cabinet colleagues, and the Deputy Commissioners (DC) of all districts to give suggestions to ensure the successful implementation of Orunodoi 3.0 and National Food Security Act (NFS).
Apart from Orunodoi, National Food Security Act (NFS) will also be launched across the state on September 19.
CM Sarma underlined that efforts have been made to implement developmental schemes around newly-formed constituencies since the last parliamentary elections.
Orunodoi 3.0: Eligibility Criteria
Sarma also emphasised on state government's efforts to link Orunodoi with Aadhaar, and only individuals possessing ration cards would be eligible for Orunodoi 3.0 and announced that moving forward, polling booths would serve as the operational units for the scheme.
The Chief Minister had earlier specified the eligibility criteria to avail the benefits of the scheme. He had said that the annual income threshold for receiving a ration card would be set at Rs 4 lakh, whereas eligibility for Orunodoi scheme would be capped at Rs 2 lakh.
He also recommended the use of local languages to enhance public participation in both initiatives.
