Sindudurg: Maharashtra Police has filed an attempt to murder case against the ex-husband of a 50-year-old American woman who was found tied with chains in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg forest on Tuesday, said police officials.
The case was registered on behalf of a note written by the woman at the hospital in which she stated that her ex-husband tied her to a tree and left her abandoned near Sonurli village in the coastal Sindhudurg district.

‘Based on the note written by the woman at the hospital, a case has been registered against her former husband on charges of attempted murder, act endangering the life or personal safety of others and wrongful confinement under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),’ Saurabh Agrawal, Superintendent of Police of Sindhudurg district, said.
The woman is identified as Lalita Kayi. The police said her visa had expired, and she had been in India for the past 10 years.

Police found a photocopy of her US Passport and an aadhaar card with a Tamil Nadu address with her. Later Search teams were sent to Tamil Nadu and Goa to lead the probe and find the relative of the woman.
A shepherd in Sonurli village heard distressed cries for help on Saturday evening and found the woman chained to a tree and informed the police immediately.

The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital in Sindhudurg and then to Goa for further examination where doctors informed that the lady is suffering from psychiatric problems.
