Supreme Court is set to commence day-to-day hearing from Tuesday in politically sensitive case of Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute in Ayodhya after efforts to arrive at an amicable settlement through mediation have failed.A five-judge Constitution bench heed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi will conduct hearing.

" hearing which will be on day-to-day basis until arguments are concluded will start with appeals arising out of two suits. learned counsel(s)...in appeals arising out of aforesaid suits may, for convenience of court, indicate pleings and evidence on which y propose to rely, so that officials of Registry can keep said documents rey for perusal of court," bench h said in its order. Fourteen appeals have been filed in apex court against 2010 Allahab High Court judgment, delivered in four civil suits, that 2.77-acre land in Ayodhya be partitioned equally among three parties -- Sunni Waqf Board, Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.

On December 6, 1992, Babri Masjid, constructed at disputed site in 16th century by Shia Muslim Mir Baqi, was demolished. central government on January 29 this year moved apex court seeking its d to return 67-acre undisputed acquired land around disputed site to original owners.
0.313 acre plot, on which disputed structure stood before it was demolished by 'kar sevaks' on December 6, 1992, was within 2.77-acre disputed premises., plea said. government h n acquired 67.703 acres, including 2.77-acre plot, through a legislation in 1993. Ram Janambhoomi Nyas (RJN) is owner of as much as 42 acres of acquired n-disputed land.

Centre's plea said that RJN (a trust to promote construction of Ram Temple) h also sought return of excess land acquired to original owners. Centre claimed that only 0.313 acre of land was disputed on which structure stood before it was demolished by 'kar sevaks' on December 6, 1992. A week later, ar petition was filed challenging constitutional validity of 1993 Central law on land acquisition in Ayodhya near disputed site, contending that Parliament has legislative competence to acquire land belonging to state. Seven individuals, including two Luckw-based lawyers claiming to be devotees of Ram Lalla, said state legislature has exclusive power to make provisions on manment of religious affairs inside its territory. plea said Acquisition of Certain Areas of Ayodhya Act, 1993 Act infringes right to religion of Hindus guaranteed and protected by Article 25 of Constitution of India.

Mediation panel submits report
Earlier on July 31, Ayodhya mediation panel was allowed to continue talks to reach consensus between Hindu and Muslim sides over dispute of construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. After discussions, panel has submitted report and based on this report, SC-bench is set to take up matter on Friday.
Heed by Justice FM Kalifulla, senior vocate Sriram Panchu and spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, if mediation panel reaches consent on Ayodhya dispute, n mediator's decision may be passed by top court as court decree. However, if members fail to reach a consensus on matter, court will be hearing case continuously after panel submits its final report. hearings will continue to take place until unless a verdict is passed.

Mediation panel formed to solve dispute
Supreme Court h on July 18 asked mediation committee on Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute to continue process and submit a report on progress me till July 31. A Constitution bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer observed that it will take a call on August 2 on wher a hearing is required in case. apex court h me mediation panel for 8-week and Uttar Presh's Faizab was set as location where mediation would be held. eight-week deline for mediation talks completed on May 3.
