In an historic ruling, the Supreme Court of India on Saturday, November 9, gave its verdict in the long-standing Ayodhya disputed land case and stated that the entire disputed land will be given to the Hindu community to build a temple. In its unanimous verdict, CJI Ranjan Gogoi also stated that an alternative 5 acres of land in a "suitable, prominent place in Ayodhya" would be granted to the Sunni Waqf board to build a mosque. The SC Bench comprising of SA Bobde, Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice Abdul Naseer and headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi stated that Allahabad HC was wrong in dividing the disputed site into three parts and the entire land should be considered as one part.

The SC bench on Saturday said Hindu litigants were able to establish their case that they were in possession of the outer courtyard whereas the Muslim side was unable to prove their exclusive possession. CJI Ranjan Gogoi said that the Centre within 3 months will formulate a scheme under the Ayodhya Act 1993. Scheme will have a Trust for management and construction of the temple. Inner courtyard and outer courtyard will be handed over to Trust and Centre to also give rest of the land to Trust. CJI Ranjan Gogoi ruled that Muslim groups will get 5 acres of alternate land.
