Ayodhya Verdict: SC directs Centre to set up a trust to build temple

The Constitution bench of the SC, comprising of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer delivered a unanimous verdict in the Ayodhya land dispute case on November 9. It ordered the Centre to formulate a scheme within 3-4 months for setting up a trust. Thereafter, the former would hand over the entire land to the trust for the construction at the site. Apart from this, the SC directed that a suitable, alternative plot of 5 acres in Ayodhya should be given to the Sunni Waqf Board for the construction of the mosque. The Allahabad High Court which had delivered its judgement in 2010, partitioning the 2.77 acre land among the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla was over-ruled by the Constitution bench.
