Ayurveda Day: PM Modi hails WHO's decision to set up Traditional Medicine Centre in India
On the occasion of the 5th Ayurveda Day, the World Health Organization announced that it will set up a Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in India.

On occasion of 5th Ayurveda Day, World Health Organization in a video mess anunced that it will set up a Global Centre for Tritional Medicine in India. WHO Director-General Tedros ham Ghebreyesus me anuncement and said, 'WHO institution will become centre for global wellness'. This anuncement came after PM Modi on Friday inaugurated two Ayurveda institutes- Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), Jamnagar, and National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), Jaipur.
WHO tritional medicine strategy 2014-2023
During inauguration of two premier institution of Ayurveda in India (ITRA & NIA), WHO Director-General Tedros ham Ghebreyesus anunced plan to set up a Global Centre for Tritional Medicine in India. While PM Modi exuded confidence in India emerging as 'pharmacy of world', Tedros stated that Centre is aimed at supporting 'WHO tritional medicine strategy 2014-2023'.

Speaking about Centre, WHO Director-General said, "I am pleased to anunce that we have agreed to open a WHO Global Centre for Tritional Medicine in India to strengn evidence, research, training and awareness of tritional and complementary medicine. This new centre will support WHO's efforts to implement WHO tritional medicine strategy 2014-2023 which aims to support countries in developing policies and action plans to strengn role of tritional medicine as part of ir journey to universal health cover and a healthier, fairer and safer world."

'Matter of pride for Indians'
At inauguration event, PM Modi said that Ayurveda is India's herit and expansion of Ayurveda is essential for 'welfare of humanity'. He furr ded that it is a 'matter of pride' for people of India that country has been chosen by WHO for establishment of its Global Centre for Tritional Medicine. PM Modi also expressed gratitude towards global health organisation for 'giving this responsibility to India'.

"Ayurveda is India's herit whose expansion entails welfare of humanity and all Indians will be happy to see that country's tritional kwledge is making or countries prosperous. It is a matter of pride for all Indians that WHO has chosen India for establishing its Global Centre for Tritional Medicine. w work will be done in this direction from India. I would like to thank WHO and particularly its Director-General Tedros for giving this responsibility to India. I am confident that just like India has emerged as pharmacy of world, in same manner, this centre for tritional medicine will become centre for global wellness," said PM Modi.
