Mumbai: Former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique was shot by three assailants outside his son Zeeshan Siddique's office in Mumbai on Saturday evening; he was taken to Lilavati Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The involvement of Lawrence Bishnoi's gang is being probed as his group claimed responsibility for the murder, while business rivalry is another angle under the scanner. So far, 3 accused have been arrested in the case. 

Siddique last rites were performed in Mumbai's Bada Qabrastan with state honour.

Baba Siddique Shot Dead in Mumbai; 2 Assailants Arrested, 1 Arms Supplier Arrested 

Baba Siddique, according to police sources, was shot by three masked assailants outside his MLA son Zeeshan Siddiqui's office near Colgate ground in Nirmal Nagar, Bandra East, Mumbai on Saturday evening. The former state minister was admitted to Lilavati Hospital but couldn't survive, a police official said.

Mumbai Police immediately took action and two out of three assailants have been arrested and taken into custody, however, the third assailant is still on the run. Condoling the death of Baba Siddique, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has assured strict action in this murder.

Mumbai Police told a local court on Sunday that it will have to investigate whether NCP leader Baba Siddique was killed due to political rivalry.

While seeking the remand of accused Gurmail Singh from Haryana and Dharamraj Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh, police informed the court that they wish to investigate whether the case stems from political rivalry, especially with the Maharashtra assembly elections approaching.

The accused, identified as Gurmail Singh and Dharamraj Kashyap taken from Esplanade Court. The Court sent accused Gurmail Singh to Mumbai Crime Branch custody till 21 October. Police custody of Dharamraj Kashyap was not given. The court has directed to present the second accused again after conducting his ossification test.
