Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant on Sunday took to Twitter to pay his tributes to Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray on his seventh death anniversary. About Balasaheb Thackeray
Famously kwn as 'Hindu Hridaysamrat', Bal Thackeray h started as a cartoonist with Free Press Journal (FPJ). After leaving FPJ, Thackeray went on to establish his political weekly - 'Marmik' commenting on growing influence of n-Marathis in 1960s Bombay. To vocate pro-Marathi interests and to forward pro-Hindutva cause, Thackeray founded Shiv Sena.

After establishment of Shiv Sena, Thackeray's political sway in Maharashtra - especially in Mumbai grew leaps and bounds. Post -1992, Thackeray - also founder of Saamana, vociferously fought for Ram Mandir movement, allying with BJP as a part of NDA. In 1999, Thackeray was banned from voting and contesting in any election for six years by EC. Thackeray never held any official position but was kwn as kingmaker in Maharashtra government. On vember 17, 2012, Thackeray passed away at his residence Matoshree and was accorded a state funeral.
