Mumbai: In Mumbai’s Bandra, a woman allegedly attempted to extort Rs 10 lakh from her ex-boyfriend by threatening of lodging a false rape case against him. The Bandra police have registered an FIR against the woman and her husband for allegedly attempting to extort money from the victim and initiated a probe.
According to the police, the case was registered on September 7. As per the case registered by the police, the woman in her late 20s and her ex-boyfriend first met last year but broke up later after her father opposed their relationship.

The woman had also requested the man to invest in her restaurant business plan, but he did not make any investment, police sources said.
In his complaint, the man said the woman threatened to defame him in October last year by telling his friends and family about their relationship.

“She also threatened to lodge a false case of rape against him and also to die by suicide. She also told the complainant that her brother was a senior bureaucrat and that she could easily get him booked in a false rape case. The woman, along with her husband, threatened the complainant and demanded Rs 10 lakh from him,” another police source said.
The complainant said the blackmailing had gone on for months.

The police have booked the woman and her husband under Indian Penal Code sections related to extortion, impersonating a public servant, defamation, abuse, threats, and criminal conspiracy.
They have not made any arrest in the case yet as further investigations are underway.
