Calls Bengal Unsafe for Women, Accuses State Government of Failing to Protect Its Citizens
“Bengal is not a place safe for women. Bengal has failed its women. Not the society but the present government has failed its women folk,” Bose said, as public outrage grows over the incident that took place inside a hospital at night on Aug 09.
Bose blamed the state government for the worsening safety of women in Kolkata, saying, “Women now are scared of ‘gundas’; this has been created by the government that is insensitive to this issue.” He called for a return to a time when Bengal was known for treating women with respect.
The crime at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has sparked protests and demands for accountability from the state government. Governor Bose expressed his support for the victim’s family, saying, “I respect the sentiments of the mother. The law will take its course.”
West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has called for an emergency meeting. The governor's decision comes after former cricketer and AAP Rajya Sabha member Harbhajan Singh wrote an open letter expressing deep concern about the incident.
