Bengaluru: BBMP sets February 28 deadline for Kannada signboards on shop-fronts

The commercial stores falling under the jurisdiction of BBMP are required to install 60 percent Kannada language nameplates by 28 February, 2024.

Bengaluru, Karnataka: commercial stores falling under jurisdiction of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) are required to install 60 percent Kanna language nameplates, which, if failing to do so, will attract legal action., according to BBMP officials. 

dressing a meeting at Malleswaram IPP hall with Karnataka Rakshana Vedike regarding mandatory use of Kanna language in nameplates of all s of commercial shops, Tushar Giri Nath, chief commissioner of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), said that a meeting will be held with all zonal commissioners regarding mandatory use of Kanna language on name plates and appropriate directions will be given.

"re are 1400 km of arterial and sub-arterial ros in city, and all commercial shops on se ros will be surveyed zone wise. After survey a notice will be given to shops that do not use 60% Kanna language. After issuing notice, y will be given time till February 28 to implement Kanna language nameplates and submit compliance to respective zone commissioners," Tushar Giri Nath said.

He mentioned that stringent action would be taken against those failing to display Kanna nameplates at ir shop fronts. ditionally, concerted efforts will be me to ensure efficient implementation of both government order and corporation circular.

"Legal action will be taken against shops that do not install Kanna nameplates by February 28. Accordingly, shop fronts that do not use Kanna language on nameplates will be suspended as per law and n ir license will be cancelled," he ded.

" big malls coming up in city should be consulted immediately and Kanna language should be opted in nameplates in all shops in malls within 15-20 days. Orwise, disciplinary action will be taken as per law," he ded.

Deputy Commissioner Manjunatha Swamy, Chief Engineer Praveen Lingaya, State President of Karnataka rakshana vedike Narayan Gowda, representatives of Kanna Sangh and or officials were present in meeting.
