Bengaluru police to recruit and train stray dogs to assist the force

To accompany the Bengaluru police force during patrolling at night and guarding the police station, the authorities have decided to recruit, train street dogs.

To accompany Bengaluru police force during patrolling at night and guarding police station, authorities have decided to recruit and train street dogs. According to a local media report, initiative has been taken by Bengaluru Police's South Division which has 17 police stations under its jurisdiction. person behind idea is believed to be Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohini Katoch. 

While speaking to a local media outlet, police commissioner said that re are at least 50-60 dogs in total who are mostly outside police station wandering around and many residents also feed m and take care of m. She furr ded that she has asked her officials to feed strays and give m basic training like obeying commands so that y can use m as guard dogs. Moreover, she reportedly said that stray dogs are easy to maintain unlike exotic breed dogs and slowly se dogs will also get into better shape.

Bengaluru is t first state to train street dogs. Last year, Uttrakhand Police h also taken a similar initiative of training street dogs in order to make m part of police force. official Twitter account of Police h also posted about performance by street dogs who were professionally trained. Since conditions of stray dogs have degred in recent years, animal organisations are also encouraging this first of its kind experiment by Uttarakhand police.

Resolution to help stary dogs

In a bid to help stary dogs, Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) also passed a unique resolution. SMC passed a resolution to offer free parking and a 100 per cent discount on garb collection fee to families that are rey to opt stary dogs.

While talking to a news ncy, Pankaj Rai, Commissioner of SMC, said, "Initially, this scheme was t included in proposal. Earlier, we offered 50% off garb bill, but after viewing response of people, we thought that more people should join option scheme. So, we offered free parking and exempted people from garb bill for opting stray dogs, along with free registration and vaccination charges."
