Bharat Biotech issues guideline, advises pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid Covaxin

In a word of caution, Bharat Biotech has advised in its fact sheet that pregnant, breastfeeding women or those planning pregnancy should avoid Covaxin

Bharat Biotech, manufacturer of Coronavirus vaccine 'Covaxin', has published fact sheet on Tuesday for recipients to have a better understanding of risks and benefits of immunisation. In a word of caution, manufacturer has vised people having fever, pregnant or breastfeeding women or those planning for pregnancy to t get mselves ministered with Covaxin.

fact sheet says, "If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should t get vaccine as effect of vaccine has t been studied in pregnant women or nursing mors."

fact sheet also mentioned that those having bleeding disorders or are on a blood thinner or having any or serious health-related issues should also avoid vaccine of Bharat Biotech. Moreover, a person with a history of high allergies, or high fever should also t take vaccine. People who are immu-compromised or are on medication which affects immune system should also refrain from taking Bharat Biotech's vaccine.  manufacturer has also vised t to interchange vaccines, i.e. taking shots of different vaccines.

Wher or t Covaxin can be taken after taking a shot of ar vaccine, fact sheet re "re is scientific information yet available on appropriateness of use of Bharat Biotech's COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin along with or vaccines."

Bharat Biotech in fact sheet on Covaxin, posted in its website, stated that clinical efficacy of vaccine is yet to be established and is being studied in Phase 3 clinical trial and hence it is important to appreciate that receiving vaccine does t mean or precautions related to COVID- 19 need t be followed.

A severe allergic reaction may very rarely occur after getting a dose of Covaxin said manufacturer. For this reason, vaccine provider asks recipients to stay at vaccination centre for 30 minutes for monitoring of reactions if any. Difficulty in breathing, swelling of face or throat, fast heartbeat, rashes on body, dizziness and weakness, were some of severe reactions stated by Bharat Biotech, ding that se may t be only possible side effects. To assu vaccine recipients, Bharat Biotech has said that all recipients will be followed up for a period of three months after second dose of vaccination.
