Bhopal to have waterproof Ravana for Dussehra owing to heavy rainfall

In order to prevent heavy rainfall from ruining the festivities on the occasion of Dusshera, a committee in Bhopal has installed a waterproof Ravana effigy on the old compound ground. Furthermore, the committee has also installed the effigy of Aksayakumara, the youngest son of Ravana, to educate children about his role in Ramayan.

'This time we have made waterproof Ravana'
According to a local resident from the area, Pushpendra Singh Sengal, "From the past 28 years, we are installing effigies here. This time we have made waterproof Ravana by stuffing it with gelatin. The drizzle in the area has not caused any harm to the effigies”.
Few isolated places over Madhya Pradesh are receiving rainfall from the past couple of days resulting in water logging in the areas. In few places, relentless rain brought places such as Bhopal, Gwalior and Indore to a standstill, resulting in a traffic jam at several junctions and roads across the city. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain and thundershowers at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh for the next few days.

Incessant rains followed by floods in September have reportedly caused excessive damage in several parts of Madhya Pradesh. According to reports from local media, over 600 people lost their lives in the floods. Further, the state suffered a loss of Rs 11,906 crore during the floods. The State government officials sought immediate financial aid for relief and rehabilitation work. The officials also made a formal request for financial assistance of Rs 11,906 crore before the central team that visited the state.

Three dozen districts have been gravely affected by the floods and the downpour in the state. The figure is loosely based on the initial assessment of the damage which was a consequence of the heavy rains. The rainfall and the floods have already claimed over 225 lives so far. The officials on September 19 held a meeting with the central team members and notified them of the huge losses. The officials stated that 36 of the 52 districts have suffered serious losses due to heavy rains and floods. Furthermore, the central team is scheduled to investigate the losses in Vidisha, Raisen, Rajgarh, Mandsaur, and Agar Malwa districts.
