Nitin Batham, the hero in Bhopal boat tragedy who saved eight lives, has been rewarded with Rs 50,000 and government job by the district administration

Nitin Batham, man who saved eight lives from drowning during Ganpati Visarjan in Bhopal, was rewarded for his bravery on Thursday. Nitin was present at Chhota Talab near Khatalpur Ghat, Bhopal, when a boat capsized during Ganesh immersion. district ministration rewarded Nitin Batham with Rs 50,000 cheque, a government job, and has also recommended his name for a gallantry award.

"I was watching immersion of idols. Suddenly I saw two boats losing ir balance. I immediately jumped on to a boat and sailed to accident spot to save people. I wish I could have saved all of m. I have been a swimmer in my teens and also kw sailing. ways, I sell fish in Chola area here," he said to PTI.

On Friday, bodies of 11 people were recovered at Khatlapura Ghat in Bhopal after boat y were in capsized on morning of September 13. people h set out for Ganpati Visarjan when incident happened. According to reports, incident took place at around 4:30 am.

"Five people have been rescued out of 16 and we have recovered 11 bodies till w. A search operation is underway and we are trying to rescue or people as well. According to locals, only se many people h drowned here, but we are still searching in case we find some or people," Akhil Patel, ditional Superintendent of Police (ASP) said early on yesterday morning. He ded that at least 40 police personnel were present at spot along with or authorities and professional swimmers. "State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) team is also present at spot," ASP stated on Friday.
CM Kamal Nath orders magisterial inquiry
Office of Chief Minister of Mhya Presh Kamal Nath on Twitter on Friday said that news of 11 people drowning in Khatlapura Ghat in Bhopal is sdening. tweet furr assured citizens that government is with families of victims. Promising to take action, CM's office stated that whoever was negligent will t be spared. Kamal Nath also instructed a magisterial inquiry into incident and promised all aggrieved that compensation amounting to Rs. 11 lakhs will be given.
