Varanasi: Amid protests, BHU professor Feroze Khan to interview at Art faculty

Prof Feroze Khan of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) will be appearing for an interview in University's Art faculty on Wednesday as students continue to protest over his appointment as Assistant Professor in Sanskrit department of varsity. Feroze, a professor in Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vigyan of BHU will be appearing for associate professor's post in Sanskrit department of Art faculty.

students had on Monday resumed ir protest against appointment of Khan in Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vigyan of University. agitation was called off on vember 22 after giving a memorandum to university administration against appointment of professor. protests had n begun after a break of ten days since 22. appointment of Khan in department has triggered protests by varsity's students last month.

agitating students had claimed that protest was t against appointment of a Muslim professor, but appointment of a n-Hindu in a subject closely connected with religion. Prof Khan was appointed by BHU selection committee comprising Vice-Chancellor Prof Rakesh Bhatnagar on vember 5. protestors had claimed y called off dharna on assurance from head of Sanskrit department under SVDV faculty that y would get a response within 10 days on ir demand.
'y responded on only three out of five questions'
group had claimed that a Muslim cant teach Sanskrit at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), a stand opposed by varsity officials and or students and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). On resuming dharna after 10-day wait to get a response from authorities concerned, Chakrapani Ojha, student leader spearheading protests, claimed that of five questions y had posed to university administration over appointment of Prof Khan, y were responded on only three. “So we have resumed dharna,” said Ojha on Monday evening.

After controversy, Prof Khan had appeared for interview at Ayurveda department on vember 29. He was ranked at top of merit list. Though his name figures on merit list of shortlisted candidates for post, challenge is huge as re are 39 candidates for three posts under OBC category.
