Big Drug Bust In Mizoram: Myanmar National Caught With Heroin Worth Rs 17.76 Lakh

Saitual: A Myanmar national was arrested with 592 grams of heroin worth Rs 17.76 lakh in the Saitual district here, police said on Sunday.

The accused has been identified as Ni Dun Lian (41), a native of Ngailan Village in Myanmar. 

According to police, one vehicle was halted at a random check at Keifang Dawrkawn, and soap cases that had heroin embedded in them were recovered from the passenger. 

"The police team recovered and seized 592.57 grams (50 soap cases) of heroin, the estimated value of Rs 17.76 lakh from the possession of one passenger of the vehicle, Ni Dun Lian (41) of the Ngailan Village, Myanmar," the police official said. 

A case has been registered under the NDPS Act and Foreigner and an investigation on backward and forward linkages is underway, they added.

Earlier on the night of September 2, police in Mizoram 's Champhai district seized 2.55 kg of heroin and 5.74 kg of methamphetamine, valued at Rs 1.51 crore, from the Zokhawthar area. 

During a routine check at the outskirts of New Hruaikawn Village, the Zokhawthar Police Station team stopped a vehicle  which was traveling from Bulfekzawl to Champhai under suspicious circumstances. Upon a thorough inspection, authorities discovered and confiscated 2.557 kg (220 soap cases) of heroin, estimated to be worth Rs 76,71,000, and 5.742 kg (50,500 tablets) of methamphetamine, valued at Rs 7,64,600. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the seizure, according to Lalbiakthanga Khiangte, IGP (Law & Order) of Mizoram police.
