Bengaluru: IT giant Wipro has joined the growing list of Indian IT companies implementing stricter work-from-office (WFO) policies. According to a recent report, the Bengaluru-based tech giant has notified its employees that their work-from-home (WFH) shifts will now be tied to their leave balance.

The company sent an email to its staff on September 2, mandating that employees must attend the office at least three days a week or risk losing a day’s leave.

A leading business portal reported that Wipro ’s management directed its human resources (HR) team to disallow any further requests for WFH.

The email said, "If there are any such approvals, please cancel such approvals with immediate effect, and suggest the teams attend the office three days a week minimum. The leaves should get deducted in the system for any deviation from the above said WFO policy."

A Wipro employee further confirmed that the management intends to enforce this by cancelling one day of leave for every day an employee misses office. "Simply put, if an employee is not physically present in the office for the required three days a week, then all three days would be counted as leaves," the employee explained.

It is also noted that these new directives only apply to certain projects and may not be applicable to all employees within the organization.

This move comes after similar measures have been adopted by other IT firms.

Recently, LTIMindtree, under its policy called 'Rhythm,' announced that employees who fail to attend the office for four days in a designated WFO week would lose a day's leave. Tata Consultancy Services ( TCS ) has also linked employee variable pay to office attendance, now requiring employees to be in the office five days a week. Similarly, Infosys mandates its employees to work from the office at least three days per week.
