Patna: Three people died and 12 others fell ill from suspected food poisoning at a state-run shelter home in Patna., an official said on Wednesday.
“The incident happened at the home of differently-abled woman, Asha Grih, at Patel Nagar in the Shahstri Nagar police station area,” District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
According to officials, the victims reported uneasiness after consuming breakfast on November 7.
Victims Complained of Uneasiness After Having Breakfast
A 24-year-old woman passed away on November 7 at the Patna Medical College and Hospital, followed by the death of a nine-year-old girl on November 10, and a 12-year-old girl who died on Wednesday evening.
The shelter home is operated by the Social Welfare Department.
Singh mentioned that several individuals who fell ill are still receiving treatment at the Patna Medical College and Hospital.
He stated that the exact cause of the incident is yet to be determined and that a high-level inquiry has been initiated.
“A five-member team has been formed to probe the incident with an additional district magistrate as its head,” the District Magistrate said.
"It will soon submit its report. Strict action will be taken against all those found guilty," he said.
