BJP extends Gandhi Sankalp Yatra by 3 months; to end on Jan 31, 2020

The Gandhi Sankalp Yatra programme by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has now been extended by a period of three months and will now be a 120-day exercise which will end on January 31, 2020. The programme was earlier scheduled to be held from October 2 and October 31, however, a notice was sent to party leaders communicating the extension of the programme. The Gandhi Sankalp Yatra is a programme planned by BJP to propagate Bapu’s ideals and principles of non-violence, Swaraj and simplicity to mark his 150th birth anniversary on October 2.

PM Modi to kick off Gandhi Sankalp Yatra from Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will first start off the programme from Gujarat, whereas other top leaders from the party will kick-off the programme from the party headquarters in New Delhi. The party’s Lok Sabha MLA’s have been instructed to present in their constituencies to flag the four-month-long programme. However, the constituencies which the BJP does not hold have been given to Rajya Sabha MPs to handle. Top leaders which include Union Ministers Piyush Goyal has been made in-charge of Hyderabad, Prakash Javadekar in Delhi, Nirmala Sitharaman will be in Chennai to initiate the programme.

On October 2, PM Modi will first lead the campaign in Delhi after paying tributes to Mahatama Gandhi at Rajghat. He will then reach Gujarat and then take part in various programmes scheduled for the day. To look after the four-month-long programme, BJP has also formed a committee of 10 members under General Secretary Arun Singh and consists of leaders like Nityanand Rai.

Amit Shah speaks to senior BJP leaders

BJP President Amit Shah earlier interacted with several party leaders through a video conference and propagated the party’s plans to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatama. JP Nadda and other senior leaders also asked party leaders to start campaigns in their respective constituencies to propagate Gandhi’s ideals. The party leaders have also been asked to hold rallies, public meetings, press conferences and hold programs of 'Prabhat Pheri'.
