A 26-year-old BJP worker and former student union leader was allegedly shot dead by two men in UP’s Basti, sparking protests by his supporters who set ablaze several government buses and police vehicles.
Student mob agitated over BJP worker’s death
Kabir Tiwari, a former student union president of APN college, was attacked around 10 am at Ranjeet crossing on Malviya road, y said. He was taken to district hospital from where he was referred to Luckw. Tiwari died on way, y said. After incident, supporters of BJP leader kept body in front of city police station demanding immediate arrest of accused. A mob of students damd 15 roadways buses and a police jeep, besides setting ablaze a police bike.

"After seeing CCTV foot, it has become clear that re were only two people," IG Basti Ashutosh Kumar said.

Accused arrested
accused have been arrested and three illegal pistols seized, Kumar said. Both accused, Abhay Tewari and Anurag Tewari, are graduate students in Sant Kabir Nagar. y have accepted ir crime, IG said, adding that y had a personal rivalry with Singh. Those who indulged in vandalism and arson will be identified and an FIR will be lodged against m, IG added.
