BJP's Vijay Goel unrelenting; says Delhi govt not serious on pollution

BJP MP Vijay Goel on Thursday slammed the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Government over the rising pollution levels in the city and his scheme of Odd-Even to counter pollution. Goel said that the government is not at all serious about air pollution and is instead doing politics over the odd-even scheme. Earlier, on November 4, the BJP MP had purposedly violated the Odd-Even scheme on the initial day itself as the odd-even was imposed in the city.

"Delhi government not serious about air pollution"

BJP MP Vijay Goel while speaking to ANI on Thursday said, "The Kejriwal led government in the state is not serious about the air pollution. They have done nothing to reduce air pollution. The government cannot even state the measures taken by the government to combat air pollution. According to reports released today, stubble burning is only responsible for 10 per cent of the pollution, who will account for the remaining 90 per cent?" Goel also added that the government exempted two-wheeler vehicles which is actually the major cause of pollution in Delhi. They are doing politics over the Odd-Even scheme" The BJP MP also rode bicycle to Delhi Deputy CM and Aam Aadmi Party leader, Manish Sisodia's residence to offer him a stubble bunch on Thursday.

Goel flouts Odd-Even rule, gets fined

Protesting against the Delhi government's Odd-Even scheme, which kicked in on November 4, Former Union Minister and  BJP leader Vijay Goel travelled to ITO from his residence in a car bearing an odd-number-ending license plate. He was promptly stopped by the Delhi traffic police and fined a sum of Rs. 4000. When Goel informed that he did not carry that much cash, as per procedure, Delhi traffic police informed him that he will have to pay the fine in court.

Odd-Even Scheme

Under the scheme, apart from exempted categories, only those non-transport four-wheeled vehicles will ply on the roads which have registration numbers ending with an even digit. Violations of the odd-even rule will invite a fine of Rs 4,000. Under the scheme, which is now implemented and will be in place till 8 pm, non-transport four-wheeled vehicles with registration numbers ending with an odd digit (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) will not be allowed on the roads on November 4, 6, 8, 12 and 14. Similarly, vehicles with registration numbers ending with an even digit (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) will not be allowed on the roads on November 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15.
