BMC gets witty with hilarious tweet on avoiding Diwali firecrackers

Bursting firecrackers deteriorates the air quality; despite several activists and authorities trying to curb the use of firecrackers, the practice is still evident around the festive seasons. Ahead of the Diwali festival, the Brihnmumbai Municipal Corporation's Twitter account shared a hilarious thread with the purpose to bring awareness about the ill effects of burning firecrackers. The post has left netizens in spills and some are also appreciating BMC's witty humour to spread a message.

In 2016 also, the BMC issued a drive against firecrackers and advised people of the ill effects of burning firecrackers. They also said that the firecrackers pose a serious danger to human health especially to people eyes, ear, and respiratory system. The circular also mentioned crackers should not be burst between 10 PM and 6 AM. However, we still se people burning firecrackers during the festive season. 

Supreme Court bans conventional firecrackers

In 2018, just before Diwali, the Supreme Court had banned conventional firecrackers and ruled that only green crackers with reduced emission will be allowed to be manufactured and sold in the country in order to control the pollution level. It also fixed a two-hour window for the bursting of crackers.

Delhi Police keeps a check on firecrackers

Moreover, to keep a check on polluting crackers, Delhi Police has asked people to buy only those crackers which can be scanned via the QR code, which will certify the noise and pollution limitations. Purchasing any other crackers is illegal and prohibited.The Supreme Court had banned conventional firecrackers in 2018 and had allowed only green firecrackers, which cause 30% less pollution.
