Bombay HC pulls up state, MPCB on disposing untreated COVID waste at Kalyan dumping ground
Bombay HC pulled up the state government, MPCB and KDMC directing them to respond to the PIL on disposal of untreated biomedical waste at Kalyan dumping ground.

Amid surge in number of COVID-19 cases and related deaths in country, pandemic has given rise to problem of manment and disposal of untreated biomedical waste. Responding to a petition, Bombay High Court pulled up state government, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) asking m to respond to public interest litigation (PIL) on disposal of “untreated” coronavirus-related biomedical waste at harwi dumping ground in Kalyan.
Court observed that plea highlighted an important issue of bio-medical waste manment. court directed pollution control board to inspect dumping ground and inform if guidelines pertaining to disposal of such biomedical waste were being hered to.

PIL was filed by activist Kishor Ramesh Sohoni, through vocate Shana Kumar. A division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice N J Jamar me observations Tuesday while hearing PIL through video conference and directed KDMC to stop dumping biomedical waste at harwi dumping ground.
According to PIL, " authorities have been dumping of biomedical waste from COVID 19 hospitals without treating same. biomedical waste of COVID 19 hospitals are directly being dumped regularly in Aharwi dumping ground, which is very dangerous considering spre and intensity of COVID 19."
