Bonalu to be performed by priests in temples; devotees to celebrate festival at home

In view of the Coronavirus outbreak, the Telangana govt has decided that the Bonalu festival will be performed by priests within the temples

In view of Coronavirus outbreak, Telangana government has decided that Bonalu festival will be performed by 'Archakas' or temple priests within temples as per rituals and customs.

Each year, state government celebrates this festival in a grand manner. Ever since Andhra Presh was formed, Bonalu festival was declared as state festival. In 2019, Jagan Mohan government h released Rs 15 crore for organising festival. Due to fears of COVID-19 spre, Centre and State Governments have issued strict guidelines t to allow religious processions and congregations.

People to celebrate Bonalu at home

Bonalu festival is celebrated annually in 3,020 temples, in both Hyderab and Ranga Reddy districts. However, Coronavirus has changed plans of organizers this year. government has appealed to people to offer Bonam to Goddess at home and avoid garing in temples. 'Ghatala Uregimpu' is t permitted and Commissioner, Endowments will ensure that temples receive pattu vastharams (decorations) well in vance.

Devotees can participate in virtual celebration of Bonalu festival that will be telecasted live from temples.

Andhra Presh Home Minister has appealed to all committee members and officials to cooperate with government by celebrating festival at home, as per rituals and customs for ir own safety and that of community at large.
