Border dispute: ‘Mizoram civilians threatening us’ claims Assam Minister Ashok Singhal

Assam Minister Ashok Singhal said that civilians from Mizoram have threatened the people of Assam amidst the ongoing border dispute between the two states.

Assam Minister Ashok Singhal said on Thursday that civilians from Mizoram have been threatening people of Assam amidst ongoing border dispute between two states. In an interview with ANI, Ashok Singhal said, "In video footage, Mizoram civilians are threatening us and y are carrying weapons too. So, we have issued an visory for people of Assam not to visit Mizoram. If somebody still goes re, we will not take his/her responsibility."

Cachar Guardian Minister Singhal said, "Provocative statements are still being issued from or side. Furr, talks will take place with mediation of Union Home Ministry. We have handed over post to neutral forces but Mizoram has still not withdrawn its personnel from post.” Ramandeep Kaur, Assam's Cachar Superintendent of Police, said while explaining situation, " CRPF is manning border. Assam police have withdrawn as per directions of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) but on Mizoram's side, police are still out re, which is making situation tense. Assam people should abide by directions and visory given by government of Assam." During se confrontations, Assam police released a notification saying all incoming vehicles from Mizoram will be thoroughly checked at all entry points along Assam Mizoram border. decision was taken to check and control trafficking of illicit drugs.

What is ongoing dispute?

On July 26, a massive firearm brawl broke out between forces of two states as border dispute between two states peaked. gun war resulted in death of five Assam police personnel and one civilian. Anor injured policeman later succumbed to his injuries as toll of policemen climbed to six. It is reported that at least 50 or people were injured in incident. At least six divisions of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed at site and in areas of high tension. gun battle was a result of escalated tensions in late June when Assamese Police took over a region called ‘'Aitlanghnar’ and accused Mizoram of breaching borders of its territory. Since this incident, re have been multiple clashes between people and forces of two states.
