Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir police personnel who were out to carry out an anti-encroachment drive Kathua district on Saturday came under an attack by mob who were protesting the move. 

As many as five policemen, including a deputy superintendent of police, sustained injuries after locals pelted stones on officials from Kathua administration. The Deputy SP received multiple stitches on his head following the attack. 

The anti-encroachment drive was launched in the Nagri area of Hiranagar to bring down an illegal place of worship.

The locals turned violent and attacked the police when officials from administration reached the spot. 

Reinforcements have been rushed to the area to restore law and order, the officials said. 

Kathua SSP Anayat Ali also reached the spot following the incident. Heavy police force has been deployed in the Nagri area to maintain the law and order situation.
