Video: Air India Mumbai-New York Flight Gets Bomb Threat, Diverted to Delhi

New Delhi: A New York-bound Air India flight carrying 239 passengers from Mumbai was diverted to Delhi following a security concern following a security concern arising out of a bomb threat in the aircraft on Monday morning. The aircraft is currently stationed at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, where all necessary safety protocols are being strictly followed to ensure the safety of passengers and crew on board.

According to the sources, Mumbai airport received a message on X (formerly Twitter) regarding a bomb threat in the flight bound to New York. The message was conveyed to security agencies in Delhi and the call was taken to divert the aircraft to Delhi.

As per Delhi Police, the aircraft is currently stationed at the IGI Airport, and all standard safety protocols are being diligently followed to ensure the safety of passengers and crew on board. All security agencies at the airport are on alert. "We request your cooperation and refrain from spreading unverified information. Further updates will be shared in due course," said a senior police officer at Delhi airport.

Addressing the matter, an Air India spokesperson said, “Flight AI119 operating from Mumbai to JFK on October 14 received a specific security alert and on instructions of the government's security regulatory committee was diverted to Delhi. All passengers have disembarked and are at the Delhi airport terminal.”

The Air India statement further added, “Our colleagues on ground are making sure to minimise the inconvenience caused to our guests by this unexpected disruption. Air India is committed to and accords top priority to the safety and security of its passengers and crew.”

Lately, multiple airports have faced bomb threats, many of which have turned out to be hoaxes. On October 5, Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar International Airport in Indore, Madhya Pradesh , received a bomb threat via email, prompting the police to register an FIR. The sender also threatened to detonate explosives at other airports across the country.

On the same day, Vadodara Airport also received a bomb threat via email, leading to a comprehensive security search. In response to these threats, security measures have been heightened, and authorities are actively investigating the incidents.
