Ahead of the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections, the Election Commission directed the state government to immediately remove Acting Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta from his post, citing a history of complaints against him in prior elections.

The elections are set to be held in two phases on November 13 and 20. Sources revealed that the commission’s decision to remove Gupta stems from past actions taken against him during previous electoral events.

The responsibility of DGP will now be handed over to the senior-most officer at the DGP level in the state cadre, sources confirmed.
