Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) recorded the statement of former Deputy Superintendent Akhtar Ali on Tuesday as part of its investigation into the Kolkata rape and murder case. Akhtar Ali had brought in allegations of corruption against former R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh more than a year ago. The case was eventually transferred to the CBI on the Kolkata High Court’s order.

Ali also spoke to Republic Media Network's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, asserting that Ghosh is involved in a wide-ranging scandal.

Ali detailed alleged irregularities including the mishandling of biomedical waste, illegal transactions involving dead bodies, and fraudulent tender processes. He is pushing for a high-level probe into these allegations, claiming that Ghosh is at the center of a significant criminal network.

“I have filed a criminal case in the High Court, which is scheduled for admission tomorrow. I’ve also requested protection due to threats I am receiving. This case is not just about individual wrongdoing but a large-scale scam involving Sandip Ghosh,” Ali stated.

Ali’s allegations extend to the misuse of dead bodies without proper consent and the mishandling of forensic procedures. He claims that despite complaints and legal actions, no significant measures have been taken against Ghosh, who was reportedly reinstated in his post after being transferred.

The former Deputy Superintendent further claimed that Ghosh’s network includes various criminal activities, and urged both the CBI and ED to investigate his extensive connections.

“I have seen accused individuals who were linked to Ghosh, and I suspect there is a broader nexus at play. It is crucial to dismantle this network and bring the culprits to justice,” Ali concluded.
