India demands handing over of Hafiz Saeed

New Delhi:  The Indian government has reportedly asked Pakistan to extradite 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed. Islamabad Post has reported that the Ministry of External Affairs has sent a formal letter to the Pakistani government, asking them to initiate the legal process for Saeed's extradition. For the unversed, Saeed has been listed as India's most wanted. He carries a USD10 million bounty offered by the United States, for his alleged involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks which left 166 people dead.

The news of India demanding Pakistan to extradite Saeed comes days after Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML) party, a party backed by 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed has fielded candidates for most of the national and provincial assembly constituencies across Pakistan for the general elections, scheduled to be held on Feb 8, 2024.  

In a video message, PMML President Khalid Masood Sindhu said that his party is contesting on most of the national and provincial assembly seats. "We want to come to power not for corruption but to serve the people and make Pakistan an Islamic welfare state," he said.  If Pak media reports are to be believed, Hafiz's son Talha Saeed is also in the fray and might contest from the National Assembly’s constituency NA-127, Lahore.


Talha Saeed is a senior leader of the LeT and is the head of the cleric wing of the terrorist organisation. For the unversed LeT, the terror group was accountable for orchestrating the 2008 Mumbai attack, which led to the death of 166 people including six Americans.
