Security forces on Monday killed two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists, foiling a major infiltration attempt.
Jammu: Security forces on Monday killed two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists, foiling a major infiltration attempt by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC). According to sources, a group of terrorists were spotted trying to enter the Indian territory via Nowshera sector in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
After the terrorists' movement was spotted near Line of Control, the Indian Army opened fire, leading to their death. More security forces were being sent to Nowshera operation site as Army foiled major infiltration attempt in Laam area.
Huge Cache of Weapons Seized
The Indian Army has also recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from their possession. The gunfight broke out late on Sunday night in the Laam sector of Nowshera. A massive search operation is underway as it is suspected that at least a couple of terrorists were hit in the crossfire, news agency PTI citing officials reported.
The Army conducted the anti-infiltration operation in the Nowshera sector of the India- Pakistan border during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, the official said.
Army troops guarding the LoC picked up the movement of the terrorists trying to infiltrate under the cover of darkness and challenged them, leading to the encounter, the officials said.
They said the area was illuminated and kept under strict surveillance before a search was launched at first light. Meanwhile, a high alert has been sounded in the area and searches are underway.
This development comes just days after an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the same district. Earlier on September 3, a group of terrorists fired a few bullets at the Army during a search operation and fled from the scene. However, no one was injured in this incident.
