Qatar Airways bans pagers and walkie-talkies on board flights at Beirut airport

Following the directive received from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Republic of Lebanon, the Qatar Airways on Thursday issued advisory, saying that all passengers flying from Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport (BEY) are prohibited from carrying pagers and walkie-talkies on board flights. The death of 26-year-old Chartered Accountant Anna Sebastian Perayil was being investigated, Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said in Pune on Thursday. Sebastian, who worked with SR Batliboi, a member firm of EY Global, died of cardiac arrest in Pune this July. Her mother, in September, wrote to EY India Chairman Rajiv Memani, flagging the "glorification" of overwork at the multinational consulting firm.

Lab report confirms use of beef tallow and animal fat used in preparation of ghee supplied to Tirupati temple: TDP spokesperson

Lab report of samples sent from Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam that were sent to the National Dairy Development Board in Gujarat for testing has been reportedly issued. TDP spokesperson Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy said, "The lab reports of samples certify that beef tallow and animal fat - lard, and fish oil were used in the preparation of ghee which was supplied to Tirumala and also the S value is only 19.7."

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday responded to media queries on the Reuters report on the diversion of Indian Defence Exports to Ukraine. The ministry stated, “We have seen the Reuters report. It is speculative and misleading. It implies violations by India, where none exist and, hence, is inaccurate and mischievous. India has an impeccable track record of compliance with international obligations on the export of military and dual-use items. India has been carrying out its defence exports taking into account its international obligations on non-proliferation and based on its own robust legal and regulatory framework, which includes a holistic assessment of relevant criteria, including end-user obligations and certifications.”

 India aims to build an inter-state cheetah conservation complex in the Kuno-Gandhi Sagar landscapes across Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan within the next 25 years, according to the 2023-24 annual progress report of Project Cheetah. The report, released by the National Tiger Conservation Authority on the completion of two years of Project Cheetah on September 17, said while a new batch of cheetahs was likely to be brought to the Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary by the end of the year, they would be released into free-ranging conditions over the next five years.

No water supply in parts of Delhi for 12 hours on Friday

There will be no water supply in parts of the national capital for 12 hours on Friday due to maintenance work, the Delhi Jal Board said.

According to a statement issued, the affected areas include Civil Lines, Hindu Rao Hospital, Kamla Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Karol Bagh, Pahar Ganj, Old and New Rajinder Nagar, Patel Nagar (East and West), Baljeet Nagar, Prem Nagar, Inderpuri, parts of cantonment areas, and adjoining areas under NDMC and south Delhi.

"Due to the repair of leakage in 500 mm dia Rising Main emanating from Chandrawal Water Works inside premises of Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial, Civil Lines, potable water supply from Chandrawal Water Works will remain affected for 12 hours on September 20 from 11 am onwards due to shutdown of Chandrawal Water Work,” the statement said. Due to the repair work, the water supply will be stopped, and therefore, residents of the affected areas are advised to make judicious use of water, it said.

Stock market today: Asian markets forge higher after Fed's first rate cut in over 4 years

 Asian markets forged higher on Thursday after the Federal Reserve kicked off its efforts to prevent a recession in the US with a bigger-than-usual cut to interest rates.

RG Kar Impasse: Medics to continue strike after 2nd round of talks fail

The second round of talks between junior doctors and the West Bengal government to break their strike remained "inconclusive" as the medics claimed they were "unhappy" with the outcome and will continue with their agitation and cease work movement.

The talks, which were held on the 40th day of the strike, failed to resolve the impasse following the state government's refusal to hand over written minutes of the talks, the doctors claimed. The doctors said that although the government agreed with them on several points and gave "verbal assurances," they were not given the minutes of the meeting despite several requests.
