CBI Arrests RG Kar Medical College Ex Principal Sandip Ghosh

The government on Monday notified the constitution of the 23rd Law Commission for a period of three years, with serving Supreme Court and high court judges as its chairperson and members.

In a video message posted on social media platform X, Sukanta Majumdar said, "The arrest was bound to happen and it was a demand of the people of Bengal... I already had doubted if the CBI could arrest Dr Sandip Ghosh in the matter of rape-murder due to the lack of evidence but in the case of corruption, Sandip Ghosh has been arrested, as I had predicted earlier."

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Dr Sandip Ghosh on Monday. According to sources, he has been arrested in a 2021 tender scam case.

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking a ban on the mini-series 'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack'. The PIL alleges that the series distorts the actual identities of the terrorists involved in the hijacking.

Observing that "all is not well" in the city's health department which is witnessing a "bitter" fight between authorities, the Delhi High Court on Monday tasked the AIIMS director with the responsibility of implementing the recommendations of the six-member expert committee headed by Dr S K Sarin for improving services at Delhi government-run hospitals.

 The Delhi High Court has granted bail to a money laundering accused arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a coal mining scam case in West Bengal, noting he has been in jail for more than two years but the trial has not even commenced.The court granted Gurupada Maji the relief keeping in view his incarceration of nearly 28 months and no possibility of the trial concluding in the near future.

The World Health Organization on Monday called on countries in the WHO South-East Asia Region to accelerate measures to reduce road traffic deaths, a leading cause of mortality among young people aged 15-29. "Vulnerable road users, including pedestrians, bicyclists and two or three-wheelers constitute 66 per cent of all reported road traffic deaths in our region," said Saima Wazed, Regional Director, WHO South-East Asia, in her address at the 15th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion (Safety 2024) which began here today.

Severe waterlogging in Vijayawada due to the torrential rain

At least three pilgrims were seriously injured when a landslide hit the new track to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, officials said.

The landslide hit the route near Panchi, three km ahead of Bhawan, around 2.35 pm, also damaging a portion of an overhead iron structure, the officials said.

A rescue operation was launched immediately after the landslide and the three injured pilgrims, including a woman, were evacuated to hospital.
