NPP Withdraws Support From BJP-Led Government Amidst Ongoing Unrest in Manipur

NPP, in an official letter marked to BJP national president JP Nda, stated that Manipur government, under leership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, has completely failed to control ethnic violence in state and restore normalcy. party, while pulling back its support from ruling party in Manipur with immediate effect, also expressed dissatisfaction with handling of crisis and loss of innocent lives.

In letter written by NPP to Nda, it was said, "We strongly feel that Manipur State Government under leership of Shri Biren Singh has completely failed to resolve crisis and restore normalcy."
"Keeping current situation in mind, National People's Party has decided to withdraw its support to Biren Singh-led Government in State of Manipur, with immediate effect," letter re.

This fresh update came up as situation in Manipur, which has been reeling from ethnic strife between Kuki and Meitei communities since May last year, continued to be volatile following protests and violence after recovery of bodies of women and children.
Despite losing a key ally in norastern state, BJP government is most likely to stay stable as it has a comfortable majority in 60-member Manipur Assembly. BJP currently holds 37 seats on its own, a majority well above halfway mark of 31. This includes five MLAs from Janata Dal (United) who joined BJP in late 2022.

ditionally, BJP also has support of five MLAs from Naga People's Front (NPF), one JD(U) legislator, and three Independent MLAs.
